9:00 Welcome & Agenda
9:10 State of Project Bamboo
A lot has happened since Workshop Five. Recap of where we've been, what has happened, and what will be coming next.
9:40 Current Context & Impact: Project Bamboo and Other Efforts
Project Bamboo exists within an ecosystem of projects and initiatives that have evolved greatly over the last two years. How does Project Bamboo fit in? What things have we done that tie back to the planning effort?
- Open Question: Are there connections and/or efforts we missed?
10:00 Table Discussion: Project Bamboo "in the big picture"
At each table, reflect on where Project Bamboo has had an impact and how it is is presently perceived across various communities.
- Where do we see Project Bamboo having the greatest impact and why?
- What challenges emerge for us to consider and address?
10:20 BREAK
10:40 Sharing: Project Bamboo "in the big picture"
11:00 Project Bamboo Strategic Program
The strategic program for Project Bamboo outlines an ongoing effort built by a consortium of institutions and organizations who share a vision of "enhancing arts and humanities research and teaching through the development of shared technology services." We will review the Strategic Program and the areas of work we discussed in Workshops Four and Five.
11:20 Table Activity: Keep/Toss/Change
At each table, reflect on the areas of work and answer the following questions:
- What areas should we keep?
- What areas should we toss?
- What areas should we change (and keep)?
11:40 Sharing: Keep/Toss/Change
12:10 BREAK (Lunch)
1:15 Exploring the Consortium
Sustainability is central to the success of Project Bamboo and as such, no single institution can advance the work of Bamboo alone. To achieve the vision, we need to establish an organization -- consortium -- to grow, sustain, and evolve the work of Project Bamboo.
- Open Question: Is the model viable?
- Does it reflect or community (is it "Bamboo")?
1:50 Consortium Leadership & Governance
The vision for Project Bamboo includes technology (such as proposed in the Bamboo Technology Proposal) as well as adoption and contribution. We need to achieve a balance to create a healthy organization, and that requires formal leadership and governance.
2:20 Table Activity: Leadership & Governance
- How do we strike a balance between strategic vision and getting things done?
- What aspects of successful consortia should we incorporate?
- What pitfalls of consortia should we avoid?
2:40 BREAK
3:00 Sharing: Leadership & Goverance
3:30 Bamboo Technology Proposal, Phase 1 and 2
The Bamboo Technology Proposal represents the core of Project Bamboo's technology efforts moving forward. We will more deeply explore the proposal and what it means for us.
4:15 Recap and look ahead to Day 2
4:30 ADJOURN
5:30 Reception
6:30 Reception ends, dinner on your own

9:00 Planning the Consortium & Establishing the Timetable
A number of dimensions fit into the development of the consortium: we need to organize it, focus community activities, advance project and Commons efforts, connect and communicate with partners, members and individuals, create a program for adopting standards and specifications, and finally, establish a path toward sustainability.
9:20 Table Activity: Shaping Working Groups
To establish the consortium, we need to focus our efforts toward achievable goals parallel to the execution of the Bamboo Technology Proposal through the creation of a handful and strategic set cross-institutional working groups.
- Define the scope of the working group
- Recommend three topics the working group should focus on over the first 12 months
10:00 Sharing: Shaping Working Groups
10:20 BREAK
10:40 Partners, Members & Funding
In Workshop Five we presented a funding model based around the notion of partners and members. Is this model still viable and what should we do to evolve it since the Bamboo Technology Proposal has been decoupled from the community development efforts?
11:00 Priortization of Strategic Program Elements
Yesterday, we focused on determining what areas of work should keep, toss, or change. Today, we will return to these areas and prioritize them as a group to help set the strategic direction for the Consortium.
11:20 Table Activity: Prioritization
- Assuming the Project Bamboo Consortium is in itself a priority, what are your table's top two areas that the Consortium should tackle in the next three years and why?
- From a project perspective, how many institutions/organizations should take part in making each area a reality?
- Create a flipchart for your tables' top priority that will be shared in a poster session museum tour. One person from each table should be prepared to present the table's priority and make a case for it to the workshop participants
11:45 Sharing: Museum Tour of Prioritization
12:10 BREAK
1:10 Discussion of Priorities in Relationship to Resources
- What will it take to realize the vision?
- What will require external funding?
- What can we do as a consortium with minimal or no external funding?
- Do the priorities fit with the Partner, Member & Funding model?
1:30 Building the Consortium
In order to stay in sync with the Bamboo Technology Proposal, we need to start working toward the formation of a formal consortium.
- Open Question: What do we need to do to transition from the planning project and into a consortial effort?
- How do we generate momentum across our Project Bamboo community and at large?
2:20 Moving Forward
- Close out the planning project, share workshop materials, and analyze data
- Launch working groups and create the consortium
2:40 Closing Remarks
3:00 WORKSHOP ENDS
